| Opening Mass for 21st Annual Performing Arts Festival |
23/07/2010 |
| Summary:
The Opening Mass for the 21st Performing Arts Festival took place on Friday 23rd July 2010 at the newly renovated St Mary’s Cathedral.
The Cathedral was strikingly beautiful and formed a perfect setting for the Mass.
Monsignor Michael Keating celebrated the Mass along with concelebrants Fr Christopher Ross OSM and Cathedral Assistant Priests, Fr Jeronimo Flamenco and Fr Jean-Noel Marie. Principals, Mark Powell (St Benedict’s School) performed the duties of Deacon with Darryl Winsor (Holy Rosary School) as Acolyte.
Clem Mulcahy who represented Ron Dullard for the Catholic Education Office, welcomed everyone including special guest, the Hon. Liz Behjat MLC representing the Premier’s Department.
Major Ian Milne (Retd), Chairman of Catholic Arts officially opened the Festival.
Representatives from 48 Catholic schools attended on the day. The Mass commenced with a Student Flag Procession from all schools proceeded by a rousing Fanfare by Chisholm Catholic College. A liturgical movement performed by Liwara Catholic Primary School who also provided the choir for the Mass was a wonderful start to the ceremony.
Sacred Heart College, Sorrento performed a Liturgical Movement “In The Arms Of An Angel.” Student readers from Santa Maria College, St Benedict’s School and Sacred Heart College read Prayers of Intercession and the First Reading. Students from Santa Clara took up the Offertory gifts.
A wonderful morning was had by all with refreshments served in the Parish Centre at the conclusion of the Mass.
Photos of the Opening Mass can be viewed on the Gallery of this website.
